46 <br />Sheriff — Existing Domestic Violence /Crisis Positions <br />Request: Convert 2.5 existing Social Worker II positions to full County funding. For the past <br />six years, these positions have been funded 75 percent by a Governors Crime Control Grant and <br />25 percent by the County. <br />Purpose: To continue the domestic violence and other crime victims' assistance and school <br />crisis function programs. <br />Job Functions: <br />❑ Provide support, mediation and other assistance for domestic violence and sexual assault <br />crime victims and investigative officers in Orange County, UNC Campus, and the Towns of <br />Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and Mebane. <br />❑ Augment services provided by Social Services with regard to non - custodial and stranger <br />assaults to children that Social Services cannot investigate as a matter of law. <br />❑ Provide support to the new Victims Rights Bill recently approved by the General Assembly. <br />This includes notifying victims of their rights at the time of assault and informing them that <br />their assailants have been released from jail. <br />❑ Assist in enforcing legislation recently enacted by the General Assembly that requires North <br />Carolina to honor restraining and custody orders from other states. <br />Reason for Request: <br />These services are not offered by any other agency in Orange County. If the program does not <br />continue, services currently offered for domestic violence and sexual assault victims and <br />investigators will no longer be available. <br />Outcomes: (for the 2.5 positions) <br />With continuation of the Domestic Violence /Crisis positions, the Sheriffs Department will be <br />able to maintain the outcomes listed below: <br />Outcome <br />Workload/Per Year <br />Domestic Violence Victims Assisted <br />431 <br />Physically and Sexually Abused Children Assisted <br />171 <br />Assault Victims Assisted <br />153 <br />Other Victims and Survivors Assisted <br />129 <br />Financial Impact: <br />Additional Position Offsetting Net Additional <br />Cost (Salary/Benefits) Revenue/Budget Position Costs <br />$64,805 $0 1 $64,805 <br />
