~4'~ <br />The minutes of May 27, 1976 were reviewed and one correction <br />pointed out. Upon motion of Commissioner Whitted, seconded by <br />Commissioner Gustaveson, it was moved and adopted to approve the <br />minutes of May 27, 1976. <br />The minutes of June 1, 1976, were reviewed and upon motion of <br />Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner Whined, it was moved <br />and adopted to approve the minutes of June 1, 1976. <br />Chairman Garrett inquired about the minutes of May 13, 1976, and <br />asked that the Board be supplied with minutes for that meeting. <br />Commissioner Whitted stated that he had a road matter that he <br />would like to bring to the attention of the Board. He referred to <br />Emily Road, Farrington Drive, and Marcus Deive in Chapel Hill Township. <br />He stated that several years ago the residents of these roads paid <br />to have these roads brought up to state standards and the Highway <br />Department agreed ~bo assume the responsibility of the roads, however, <br />correspondence was mislaid at the Highway Department and no action was <br />taken on the roads. Now the residents were being told that the roads <br />must be brought up to state standards again before the Highway Depart- <br />ment will maintain them. <br />The Clerk was requested to write 5. H. Jones, District Engineer, <br />regarding the matter. <br />Discussion ensued. Commissioner Gustaveson requested that the <br />Board be provided with copies of the new State policy concerning <br />Secondary Roads. <br />Chairman Garrett informed the Board of certain meetings regarding <br />highways and roads to be held during June. <br />She stated that there was a public hearing scheduled for June 23, <br />1976, at 2:00 p.m. at the Roger Herr School in Dunham. The Public <br />Hearing is concerning the Highway Improvement Program. <br />On June 29, 1976, there will be a meeting concerning I-40 Alt. <br />at the Roger Herr School in Durham. <br />On June 22, 1976, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. there will be a <br />representative from the Highway Department at the Municipal Building <br />in Chapel Hill to talk with residents about the Z-40 Alt. matter. <br />Chairman Garrett suggested that the Commissioners talk about the <br />Z-40 Alternate proposal on the third Tuesday. <br />The Chairman referred to a letter received from Mr. Lloyd Little <br />regarding a road matter. This letter is to be filed in the Highway <br />Department file. <br />Mrs. Garrett referred to Item TT2 - Appointments: <br />1. Four persons have been suggested as appointees to the Youth <br />Services Needs Task Force: a) Deloris Simpson, b) Wes Hare, c) Larry <br />Cotton, and d) James Hoyd. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gustaveson, seconded by Commissioner <br />Whitted, it was moved and unanimously adopted to appoint i~eloris <br />Simpson, Wes Hare, Larry Cotton, and James Boyd to the Youth Services <br />Needs Task Force. <br />B. An additional position, that of alternate member has been <br />created on the Hillsborough Planning Board. The County should name <br />one person to this position. <br />Mark Burnham was asked hi s. opinion of the Hillsborough Zoning <br />Ordinance and if the Ordinance did state the necessity of an alternate <br />member. Mr. Burnham stated that he would look into the situation. <br />Item V: The Department of Transportation has investigated four <br />petitions for addition to the Secondary Road System filed in Orange <br />County and is submitting their recommendations to the Board of Commis- <br />sioners for its review. <br />1. Holly Drive Recommend that this road not be added to <br />the State System. <br />2. Dumont Drive Recommend that this road be added to the State <br />System. <br />
