Development PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) Yes <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Tara L. Fikes, 245-2490 <br />PURPOSE: To receive comments from the public regarding the FY 2009 Small Cities <br />Community Development Block Grant Program. <br />BACKGROUND: The N.C. Department of Commerce -Division of Community Assistance has <br />announced the availability of funds for infrastructure projects in the state that eliminate severe <br />water and wastewater (sewer) problems with health and environmental consequences. <br />Approximately $2 million dollars is available in this category with a maximum per community of <br />$750,000. There is also a five (5) percent match requirement by local government. <br />The application window ends Friday, June 30, 2009. By that date, interested applicants must <br />submit a Letter of Interest, a Preliminary Engineering Report (PER), and beneficiary surveys in <br />order to be considered for a future application for these funds. <br />After initial public comment is received and if there is interest in pursuing CDBG funding, County <br />staff will work to assemble the required information delineated above for submission to the <br />Division of Community Assistance. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board receive comments as <br />information. <br />
