This will enhance my understanding of the particular <br />issue as well as help ensure that your concerns, if any, are addressed. <br />1. NACo County Leadership in Conservation Award Runner-Up <br />Staff was informed last month by the National Association of Counties (NACo) that the County's <br />Lands Legacy Program was selected as a finalist for the County Leadership in Conservation Award. <br />This was the fifth year this national award was made jointly by NaCo and the Trust for Public Land, <br />and the fourth time that Orange County was selected as the runner up for counties with medium - <br />sized populations. The awards presentation occurred on Saturday, March 7 in Washington D.C. as <br />part of the NACo Legislative Conference,.. .P. ,lease contact me if you_ have any comments or <br />questions. <br />2. Interlocal Agreement on Taxatioin Collection Update': <br />Revenue/Tax Collector Jo. Roberson has provided: !a memorandum at Attachment 1 regarding <br />discussions between the County and -towns on an addendum to the Interlocal,;Agreement on Tax <br />Collection. From :September through ;;early ,December 2008 the ;Orange County Revenue/Tax <br />Collector, Budget Director, and Financial services Director along with tY►e`Fuiance Directors from <br />the three towns met to discuss the anticipated acquisition. of new taxation software. As originally <br />agreed in the 2006 hiterlocal Agreement, the . entities were - meeting to consider acost- sharing <br />formula the Towns and County could agree upon. The group developed a list of recommendations <br />which are detailed in the attached memo, and the next step will be for the governing boards to <br />review and discuss the framework developed by their staffs. This item was proposed for discussion <br />at the March 26, 2009 Assembly of Governments meeting. However, other issues have become <br />more pressing and necessitated its delay until sometime in the future. Please let me know if you <br />have any comments or questions. <br />3. Status Report on Tax Collections <br />Revenue /Tax Collector Jo Roberson has provided a status report on tax collections. At present. <br />Orange County is approximately 1/3 of 1% behind in overall collections from last year. This <br />equates to approximately $570,000.
