~s9 <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gustaveson, seconded by Commis- <br />. sinner Whitted, it was moved and unanimously adopted to endorse <br />the concept of the Miller Road Community project. <br />The Chairman referred to Item V: Mr. Ebert Pierce, County Exten- <br />lion Chairman will introduce to the Board of Commissioners: <br />A. Ms. Maria B. DiMenna, the new 4-H Program Assistant in the <br />Extension Department. Mr. Pierce stated that Ms. DiMenna would <br />work mainly in the Chapel Hill area. Ms. DiMenna commented that <br />she believed in two main objectives to be accomplished in 4-H <br />work. (1) Learning and (2) to get involved in activities. <br />B. Mr. Pierce introduced Mr. Gene Owens, the new District Agent of <br />the Orange Soil and Water Conservation District. Mr. Owens stated <br />that he was looking forward to woxking with the A5C District, people <br />of the County and the County Commissioners. <br />Ms. DiMenna and Mr. Owens were welcomed by the Chairman. <br />Mrs. Garrett referred to Item VII: The County Attorney, A. B. <br />Coleman, Jr., has requested the Ordinance regulating the use of the <br />County's refuse containers be readopted since it had been previously <br />adopted without a full Board. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson, it was moved and unanimously readopted to approve the <br />Ordinance regulating the use of the County's refuse containers. <br />(For copy of Ordinance, see Ordinance Book 1, Page 13.) <br />Chairman Garrett read to the Board a letter from Gray Clark of <br />the Community Health Task Force requesting to appear before the Board <br />at its May 18th Meeting. <br />The Chairman referred to a letter received from Bob Epting, <br />Acting President of the Orange County Bar Association, requesting <br />_ permission to hang a portrait of the late Bonner Sawyer in the <br />Superior Courtroom in Hillsborough. <br />'.. Upon motion of commissioner Whitted, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson, it was moved and unanimously adopted to grant the request <br />to hang a portrait of the late Bonner Sawyer in the Superior Courtroom <br />of the Courthouse. <br />The Clerk was instructed to so inform Mr. Epting. <br />Chairman Garrett referred to Item VSI2: The County Planning <br />Board has acted on the following matters and are referring them to <br />the Board of Commissioners for their consideraticn. <br />B. A request from Curtis and Dorothy Bane to rezone 19.1 acres <br />in Eno Township from Residential to Mobile Home Park. This <br />request was unanimously approved by the members present at the <br />Planning Board meeting. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson, it was moved and unanimously adopted to approve the <br />rezoning request from Curtis and Dorothy Bane to rezone 19.1 acres <br />from Residential to Mobile Home Park. <br />Mrs. Garrett spoke of the transition area being developed around <br />the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area and stated that she felt this Eno area <br />needed similar development. She suggested that the County talk with <br />Durham City and County officials regarding this area which was rapidly <br />becoming developed with the same kind of criteria. She stated that <br />she felt this area should be looked at for comprehensive planning in <br />the same manner as the Chapel Hill area, and to be developed as a <br />transition area. Further, she stated that since water and sewer would <br />be coming from Durham County, some mechanism for coordinating this <br />should be instituted, and that development in this area was too intense. <br />A. A request from Curtis and Aorothy Bane to rezone 25.5 acres <br />in Eno Township from Residential to Mobile Home Park. This land <br />consists of two tracts, 12.7 acres in the northern tract and 12.8 <br />acres in the Southern tract. Excluded from the rezoning request <br />is a 40,000 square foot lot in the northern tract that at present <br />contains an old house and a cemetery (125 X 135 FtJ in the Southern <br />tract. <br />
