The 1975 Real Property valuation <br />was reduced. in settlement prior to hearing of appeal to Property Tax <br />Commission. The original 1975 real property valuation of $236,600.00 <br />was confirmed by the Board of Equalization and Review in 1975. The <br />Revised 1.975 real property valuation approved by the Board of Commis- <br />sioners on January 5, 1975, amount to $195,600.00. Valuation decreased <br />$41,000,00, i2efund requested is $371.05. The County's portion is <br />$266.50, Chapel Hill School District Tax $104.55. The Tax Supervisor <br />recommends a refund. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson, it was moved and adopted that the recommendation o£ the <br />Tax Supervisor be approved and that Mrs, Coker be refunded $371.0.5. <br />Nir, Kelly referred to Item IV: Request for Release 'o£ Late Listing <br />Penalty, <br />A, E. O. Edgerton Shoes, Inc. <br />This company filed its 1975 tax listing in August of 1975. They <br />contend they did not receive a tax listing form. <br />The 'Iax Supervisor states records were mailed to the Company in <br />January and several attempts made to secure the listing prior to its <br />actual receipt in August. He recommends the denial of this request. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson, it was moved and adopted that the recommendation of the Tax <br />Supervisor be approved and the request be denied. <br />B. Robert B. Sparrow <br />PQr, Sparrow stated he made several visits to the Chapel Hill list- <br />ing station during January of 1975, however, at each visit the waiting <br />lire was too long. The Tax Supervisor recommends this request be denied. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Pinney, seconded by Commissioner Whitted, <br />it was moved and adapted that the recommendation of the Tax Supervisor be <br />approved and the request•be denied. <br />chairman Garrett inquired of the County Attorney if he was prepared to <br />render a legal opinion in the request of D, M, Carmichael. The County <br />Attorney replied that he felt the Board had to decide if the reason for <br />i,r. Carmichael's failure to list was the fact that he did not receive his <br />tax form and if this failure was due to clerical error on the part of the <br />County. If the Board decided that the failure was due to clerical error, <br />then t•'r, Carmichael was entitled to a refund, however, if the Board decided <br />that the responsibility to list was placed on the tax payer then he was <br />not entitled to a refund. Discussion ensued. <br />Commissioner t-Talker moved that the County refund the $65.00 late <br />list penalty that is charged to Dan Carmichael as it was a clerical <br />error on the ,party of the County. This motion died for the lack of a <br />second. Further discussion ensued. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner ~+Thitted, seconded by Commissioner Pinney, <br />it was moved that the request of Dan Carmichael far a refund of the late <br />list penalty be denied. <br />Chairman Garrett called for the vote. <br />Commissioners Gustaveson, Pinney, and Tr7hitted vote aye. <br />Commissioners Garrett and Walker voted nay. <br />Chairman Garrett declared the motion passed. <br />Chairman Garrett referred to Item XII: Commission on the Status of <br />~vomen . <br />Cricket Ussery and Shirley Fields were recognized by Chairman Garrett. <br />They filed a report referred to aw "A council tv be Established to do a <br />Year-Long Study on the Status of ~domen in 4~range County".
