The Nomination <br />is provided as Attachment #5. <br />As a Certibed Local Government (CLG), Orange County has sixty (60) days from the date <br />of submission of a National Register nomination to make comments on the proposal. if <br />the County does not comment on the proposed nomination by June 11, 2009, the <br />County's approval is assumed. <br />In accordance with CLG guidelines, the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) is required to <br />provide an opportunity for public comment during the 60-day period. To meet this requirement, <br />the HPC held a public hearing at its meeting on May 27, 2009. Notices of Public Hearing were <br />published in accordance with the Historic Preservation Ordinance and letters were sent via <br />certified mail to all property owners within 500 feet of the subject property. (Attachment #4) <br />The National Register of Historic Places was created through the National Historic Preservation <br />Act of 1966 as part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to <br />identify, evaluate, and protect historic and archaeological resources. The program offers <br />honorary status to historic properties through a formal designation process. <br />Eligibility for the National Register is determined by a thorough evaluation of the historic <br />qualities and significance of the site, structure, or area. National Registers nominations are <br />evaluated based on the following criteria: <br />
