Cardiac monitor--defibrillators are used daily by paramedics in the Emergency <br />Medical Services Division.. Caunty~owned automatic external defibrillators ~AFDs} have been <br />provided to a[1 County fire departments as part of the Emergency Medical Services System. <br />Some municipal and County fire departments have purchased additions[ AFDs to augment the <br />Count Emergency Medical Services response. There are also County~owned AFDs in various <br />Y <br />County facilities, including the senior centers, l~ea[th Department, Recreation and Parks, and <br />the SportsP[ex. All medics[ equipment utilized as part of sn Emergency Medical Services <br />system is required to have annual performance evaluation and preventive maintenance <br />according to the rules and regulations of the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical <br />Services. <br />In prior years, the cost for the annual service contract has fallen below the threshold set by the <br />Board of County Commissioners for direct action and has been reviewed and approved by the <br />County Director of purchasing and Centro! Services. The contract cost has increased this year <br />because of the expiration of the warranty period on the fourteen Lifepak 2 Monitor <br />Def`[bil[atorsthst are used by the County's [nitia! Response Paramedics. <br />FINANCIAL. IMPACT: Funding in the amount of $2,473.28 has been requested in the 244~'~48 <br />operating budget to coverthe expense of this maintenance contract. <br />RECOMMENDATION~S~: The Manager recommends that the Board approve the contract and <br />authorize the Purchasing and Central Services Director to sign the contract upon review by the <br />County Attorney. <br />
