Outside Agency Descriptions <br /> 1. A helping bland <br /> This agency enables senior citizens to live independently, maintain high levels of wellness and <br /> avoid institutionalized care. services provided by A Helping Hand include transportation to the <br /> doctor, assistance with shopping for nutritious food and preparing healthy meals, assistance <br /> with business correspondence, and light housekeeping for a clean and safe home environment. <br /> 2. Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition of NC (APPCNC) <br /> APPCNC seeks to lower the teen pregnancy rate in orange county and North Carolina. The <br /> program offers training and services to youth-service providers to implement teen pregnancy <br /> prevention education. APPCNC is the only non-profit agency working to reduce teen pregnancy <br /> statewide. <br /> art Adolescents in Need <br /> This agency serves orange county School District teens (grades 6 through 12 and those not in <br /> school). The focus is primarily on those youths that are considered at-risk of early sexual <br /> involvement, substance abuse, defiant behavior and physical or sexual abuse due to home, <br /> family or other social surroundings. <br /> 4. Alliance of Aids services <br /> This agency operates two family care homes for low-income people living with HIV/AIDS, six of <br /> whom currently live at the orange Community Residence ("orange House") in Carrboro. This <br /> grant will assist the Alliance in providing the proper nutrition and medication needed for the six <br /> residents in the orange House. <br /> 5. American Red Cross, orange County chapter <br /> The American Red cross, orange County chapter provides Disaster services, Health and <br /> Safety services and Blood services to the citizens of orange county. Each year, the orange <br /> County chapter responds immediately to over 75 local emergencies, including house or <br /> apartment fires. Disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster- <br /> caused needs. Each year, the orange county Chapter.trains 5,000 people in lifesavings skills — <br /> programs that are designed to' give `individuals the confidence to respond'in an emergency with <br /> skills that can save a life. The chapter also provides nearly one-third of UNC Hospital's blood <br /> supply from volunteer donors in orange county. <br /> G. ArtSCeriter <br /> The Arts center links art, artists and audiences in orange county through programs, events and <br /> classes designed in response to community needs and interests. The co-existence of visual, <br /> performing and literary arts in one accessible facility encourages multi-disciplinary <br /> collaborations and provides wide--ranging experiences for professionals, amateurs and non <br /> artists of all ages to learn about and participate in visual and performing arts. <br /> 29-4 <br />
