Culture and Recreation on D artrr entals <br /> ArtsCenter $8,500 <br /> The Arts Center links art, artists and audiences in.grange County through.programs,' events and <br /> classes designed in response to community needs and interests. The co-existence of visual, <br /> performing and literary arts in one accessible facility encourages multi-disciplinary <br /> collaborations and provides wide-ranging experiences for professionals, amateurs and non- <br /> artists of all ages to learn about and participate in visual and performing arts. <br /> Forest Service $65,200 <br /> These funds provide matching support with State funds to protect forestland in Orange County. <br /> Hillsborough Youth Athletic Association (HYAA) $20,081 <br /> This agency provides youth baseball programs for Orange County children, ages 5 through 17, <br /> in a supervised and structured environment. HYAA provides playing facilities, supplies and <br /> equipment, and organizes players, parents, volunteers, coaches and umpires. <br /> Historical Foundatio'n of Hillsborough and Orange County $4,250 <br /> (Formerly Historical Museum) <br /> The Orange County Historical Museum, located in Hillsborough, preserves the past and <br /> encourages interest in local history through the exhibition of the economic, political, social, and <br /> cultural aspects of Orange County's .18th and .19th century history. The Museum is open to the <br /> public, free of charge, 6 days per week. <br /> Historic Hillsborough Commission $7,650 <br /> The Commission owns and maintains the Burwell School located on Churton Street in <br /> Hillsborough, which is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The two-acre site consists <br /> of the main house (ca 1821, 1846), a brick classroom building (ca 1837), a rare brick necessary <br /> (ca. 1837), and the Carrie Waitte Spurgeon Garden. The site is open to the public year round <br /> and there is no charge for tours of the school. <br /> Other Agencies — Libraries $250,033 <br /> General Fund contributions to the Chapel Hill Public Library ($249,333) and the Mebane Public <br /> Library ($700). <br /> Other Agencies — Recreation $ 125,'103 <br /> General Fund contributions to the Towns of Carrboro ($35,898), Chapel Hill ($83,760), and <br /> Mebane ($5,450) recreation departments. <br /> 26-22 <br />
