Public Safety Nonha �partmentals <br /> Orange County JCPC Matching Funds $87,706 <br /> These fund's fulfill the Orange-Chatham Justice Partnership requirement for the County to <br /> provide a 30% match for all JCPC funded agencies. <br /> Office Of Juvenile Justice Pass Through Funds: <br /> Boomerang $171222 <br /> Boomerang is an alternative-to-suspension program serving students from the Chapel Hill- <br /> Carrboro City Schools. In lieu of spending their out-of-school suspensions at home, Boomerang <br /> provides a safe, structured environment geared towards keeping students on pace with their <br /> schoolwork while understanding and identifying any unmet mental health or substance abuse <br /> needs. <br /> Dispute Settlement Center: Victim (Resolve/Mediation) $45,925 <br /> This program provides assistance to the juvenile justice system by helping offenders to <br /> understand the impact of their actions thereby reducing recidivism. The program has these <br /> three components: intervention, prevention and collaboration. A primary component is to <br /> schedule face-to-face meetings between the juvenile offenders and their victims. These <br /> meetings are facilitated by trained DSC mediators, and organized by DSC staff. The meetings <br /> are designed to build empathy and understanding of the human consequences of the youth's <br /> criminal actions. The RESOLVE program will help the juvenile courts and juvenile court <br /> counselors to hold offenders accountable for their actions. <br /> Governor's Crime Commission Grant $6,207 <br /> Recipient - District Court Judges Office, Judicial District 15B - NC Administrative Office of the <br /> Courts. This grant funds a position that serves as a coordinator between the courts and the <br /> school systems focusing on school suspensions and truancies in hopes of reducing the number <br /> of youth suspended from school. <br /> Hillicrest Youth Shelter $9,568 <br /> Hillcrest is an emergency shelter er in Sanford Which provides temporary shelter and related <br /> services to ' youth in Orange County who are determined to be in - need of out-of home <br /> placement. The program targets youth who are characterized as abused, neglected, <br /> dependent, delinquent, runaway, homeless, or at-risk of becoming one of these. Hillcrest <br /> residents will participate in a counseling regimen, which includes testing and evaluation and <br /> both group and individual sessions with the staff psychologist. While residing at Hillcrest, the <br /> youth are required to participate in the Education Program five days a week. The Education <br /> Coordinator either obtains assignments from the home school of the youth or creates weekly <br /> academic assignments for the residents. <br /> 26-18 <br />
