Human Servicesm continued <br /> School Health Nurses $017,732 <br /> In 2001, the Board of County Commissioners approved a School Nurse Funding Plan to <br /> promote the optimal health and well being of all students in Orange county schools. The goal of <br /> this plan was to provide one nurse to each of the existing schools at that time in both the Chapel <br /> Hill Carrboro City and Orange County school systems. This meant County funding, phased in <br /> over a four-year period, for 9 additional nurses resulting in 6 for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City <br /> Schools and 3 for the Orange County schools. Funding for school nurses in subsequent future <br /> schools will be included in the schools' proposed budgets. The School Nurse funds were <br /> previously accounted for within the Health Department's Personal Health budget. <br /> Senior care of Orange county $42,500 <br /> Senior Care of Orange. County was created to provide a safe and enriching environment while <br /> offering social and health services to frail, disabled, and isolated older adults. The program <br /> provides respite and education for family members and caregivers with the primary goal of <br /> preventing or delaying the institutionalization of participants. <br /> The Arc of orange County $3,400 <br /> The Arc of orange County works with and for people who either have or are at risk for <br /> developmental disabilities to promote full participation in all areas of life in. our community. A <br /> portion of the requested funds would be used for transportation costs for clients living in <br /> northern Orange County. The other half of their request would be spent on a new program <br /> initiative, Community Connections Program. This program will promote entrepreneurial abilities <br /> in clients by supporting and encouraging projects and activities that night lead to micro- <br /> enterprise projects. <br /> The Women's Center $'13,490 <br /> The Women's Center offers information_, education, referral and support services for women. <br /> These services include coordinating legal information, referrals to therapists, providing <br /> workshops and support groups, hosting the state's largest juried art show for women artists, as <br /> well as providing direct supportive services such as information and referral to area resources, <br /> consumer credit and basic budget counseling, career counseling, and a pregnancy and violence <br /> prevention program for at-risk adolescents and their families. <br /> Triangle Radio Reading Service $'1,530 <br /> ThJs agency broadcasts local and national newspapers and periodicals to elderly, visually and <br /> physically impaired, and handicapped residents of Grange County. <br /> Triangle Residential options for Substance Abusers (TROSA) $3,000 <br /> TROSA is a comprehensive, long-term, residential substance abuse recovery program located <br /> in Durham, North Carolina. Founded in 1994, TROSA is now the largest state licensed <br /> residential therapeutic community in North Carolina and is widely respected for its innovative <br /> therapeutic and entrepreneurial approach to the pervasive issue of substance abuse. <br /> W.C. Breeze Family Farm $10,000 <br /> These funds are budgeted for the W.C. Breeze Family Farm Agriculture Extension and <br /> Research Facility. <br /> 26-16 <br />
