Fire Districtsm continued <br /> The tax rate for this district is recommended to remain at the effective tax rate of 2.15 cents <br /> for FY 2009-10. <br /> Damascus Fire District $45,564 <br /> Southern Triangle Fire District $156,'i99 <br /> North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department contracts with Grange County to provide <br /> services to the citizens in the Damascus and southern Triangle districts of Orange County. <br /> �► The tax rate for these two districts is recommended to remain at the effective tax rate of <br /> 5.00 cents for FY 2009-19. <br /> In FY 2008--09, the department hired three new personnel, conducted promotional process <br /> for three shift Lieutenant positions, completed four levels of Multi-Company Tactical <br /> Operations training, refurbished a brush truck with a new chassis, and recruited three new <br /> volunteers. <br /> In FY 2009-19, the department plans to apply for grant funds for exercise equipment for a <br /> fitness program at four stations, train additional rescue technicians, train additional drivers <br /> and swiftwater rescue technicians, and continue pre-fire survey program. <br /> Efiand Fire District $303,230 <br /> • The tax rate for this district is recommended to remain at the effective tax rate of 4.85 cents <br /> for FY 2009--10. <br /> • Currently, their roster has 35 members, with 2 Junior Firefighters. All members participate <br /> in the state Firefighter Certification Program, and there are currently 5 who are working on <br /> completing their Firefighter Level I and 11 training. There are 22 Firefighters who have <br /> completed Level I and 11, 12 firemen who are certified in emergency rescue services, and 18 <br /> certified as First Responders. <br /> In FY 2009-10, the department plans to continue fire prevention, firefighter assistance, level <br /> 1 and 2 training, first responder training, and continue to analyze operations, call volume, <br /> and distribution of services to better plan for the future. The contract with Mebane will be <br /> renegotiated next year; Mebane continues to annex businesses or new development in the <br /> East Alamance district. Efland receives tax money from that district (excluding annexed <br /> properties) and then pays Mebane to cover single unit non-mutual aid response in that <br /> district. There is no major capital improvement programs planned for FY 2009--10. <br /> The department's five--year plan includes continuing to work toward the goal of purchasing <br /> apparatus outright instead of financing, maintaining, their ISO rating of 7, continue to save <br /> money for land purchase for a third station, and work on plans to phase in paid personnel, <br /> as call volume grows. <br /> Eno Fire District $342,596 <br /> The tax rate for this district is recommended to remain at the effective tax rate of 4.99 cents <br /> for FY 2009--10. The department did submit a request for a 1.0 cent tax increase to 5.99 <br /> cents to help with operating costs at both stations, to purchase new equipment for station <br /> ##2 district, and to reimburse the capital equipment replacement fund that was depleted due <br /> to the purchase of radios for the new Soo MHz radio system. <br /> 192 <br />
