98 <br />NORTH CAROLINA CONSERVATON WEEK <br />NOVEMBER 2 - 8, 1975 <br />"WHEREAS the energy problems facing us today require that we <br />conserve our resources if we are to be prepared for the future, <br />and; <br />WHEREAS public awareness is essential in stimulating a successful <br />energy conservation program, and; <br />WHEREAS this body, the Orange County Board of Commissioners,, <br />has recognized the importance of energy conservation by creating <br />the Orange County Energy Conservation Task Force, and; <br />WHEREAS the State of North Carolina will observe November 2 - 8, <br />1975, as Energy Conservation Week, <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT'RESOI.~VED, by the Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners, that in recognition of the importance of this <br />conservation problem, that this body encourage all of the <br />residents of this County and all County employees to make <br />conscious efforts toward significant decreases in energy <br />consumption." <br />This the 21st day of October, 1975. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner ~+Thitted, seconded by Commissioner <br />Pinney, it was moved that the Board approve the Resolution entitled <br />"North Carolina Conservation Week." <br />Chairman Garrett read the following resolution: <br />PUBLIC SEMINARS ON <br />ENERGY - A NATIONAL AND A LOCAL PROBLEM <br />"WHEREAS the Orange County Energy Conservation Task Force has <br />initiated a series of public energy seminars entitled 'Energy <br />- A National and a Local Problem', and; <br />WHEREAS this County Board of Commissioners has endorsed the <br />activities of this task force, and; <br />WHEREAS public awareness of the full scope of our energy <br />problems is essential for concerted action, NOW THEREFORE; <br />BE IT RESOLVED, by the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />that this body encourages all of the residents of this <br />County and all County employees to participate in these seminars <br />This the 21st day of Dctober, 1975." <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gustaveson, seconded by Commissioner <br />Whitted, it was moved and adopted that the Board adopt the Resolution <br />entitled "Public Seminars on Energy - A National and a Local Problem." <br />Discussion ensued concerning the need to have the public better <br />informed as to the real crisis of the energy problem. Mr. Silver <br />suggested that if various agencies desired to present a program on <br />- the matter then the Task Force would supply the needed guest speaker. <br />The Clerk was instructed to forward a Memorandum to the various <br />agencies, the school units, and local organizations informing them <br />- of the available speakers an the topic of energy. <br />Commissioner Gustaveson stated that there was to be a National <br />Energy Conference in Atlanta and that several members of the Task <br />Force has expressed an interest in attending this first Conference, <br />therefore, he was proposing that the Board share some .of the expense <br />that would be incurred for air travel, hotel accommodations, and a <br />minimal food allowance. Discussion ensued. <br />
