Why are we doing this now? •In anticipation of the revised 2007 FIRM amendments, the State Attorney General's office issued an opinion in 2005 indicating that amendments to existing flood regulations and/or flood maps ought to be treated and processed as zoning amendments •In the fall of 2006, the County Attorney's office concurred with this opinion •In the Fall of 2008 State and Federal officials conducted a Community Assistance Visit (CAV) with staff to review/audit the floodplain management program where we were told to being this process Why we are doing this (continued): Staff and the County Attorney had hoped to wait to incorporate flood regulations into the zoning ordinance when work began on developing the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).
