Housing for New Hope <br />• The organization's mission is to encourage and assist homeless people and other persons in <br />crisis to move toward lives marked by increased levels of stability, dignity, hope, and <br />independence. The OPC Area Program has provided funding to Housing for New Hope for the <br />planning process and start-up costs to create a Community Support Team in Orange County. <br />Consisting of various kinds of counselors and workers, this mobile team will provide clinical <br />support and treatment to homeless individuals. This effort addresses a strategy of the Ten Year <br />Plan, i.e., to improve the effectiveness of homeless service providers by reducing the possibility <br />that individuals might otherwise fall through the cracks. <br />31. Inter-Faith Council for Social Service <br />The IFC meets basic needs and helps individuals and families achieve their goals. They provide <br />shelter, food, direct services, advocacy and information to people in need. We accomplish this <br />through strong partnerships with volunteers, staff and those we serve. We rely on the active <br />involvement of caring individuals, congregations and other community organizations. <br />32. Inter-Faith Food Shuttle <br />The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, in the belief that hunger is unacceptable, alleviates hunger by <br />developing systems to recover, prepare and distribute wholesome, perishable food for the <br />area's poor, hungry, undernourished and homeless. The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle actively <br />supports the advocacy efforts of America's Second Harvest, and Food Research & Action <br />Center (FRAC). <br />33. Joint Orange-Chatham Community Action (JOCCA) <br />• JOCCA provides services to very low-income families and individuals with the goal of improving <br />their quality of every day life. JOCCA offers the following services (1) nutrition and aging; (2) <br />self-sufficiency services; (3) job training and employment; (4) community based assistance and <br />teen court for youth offenders; and (5) energy conservation/weatherization and heating <br />assistance. <br />34. KidSCope <br />KidSCope is an early intervention program that offers services to young children who are <br />experiencing social, emotional, and/or behavioral difficulties. Main service components include <br />individual play therapy with children, customized counseling and education for families, <br />technical assistance and training for childcare providers, service coordination and a therapeutic <br />preschool program. <br />35. Literacy Council <br />The Orange County Literacy Council (OCLC) provides tuition-free instruction to adults who want <br />to improve their skills in reading, writing, basic math and/or computer-based literacy. Trained <br />volunteers provide individual tutoring and lead small group classes in a variety of public settings. <br />• <br />Page 5 of 8 <br />
