XIV. CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS <br />A. Please describe any conservation and environmental practices and assistance programs <br />currently associated with the project. <br />Col. Breeze has long been a true steward of the land. He has installed many conservation practices over the yearswith <br />assistance and guidance from the Orange NRCS /Soil and Water Conservation District. including Grassed Waterways, Field <br />Borders, Conservation Tillage, Conservation Crop Rotations, and Upland Wildlife Habitat (See the enclosed SWCD <br />Conservation Plan). <br />The Breeze farm is enrolled in the NC Forest Stewardship Program (since 1994), and in 2008 was recognized by the NC <br />Division of Forest Resources for the outstanding management of his forst land. There is also a forest management plan for the <br />farm, administered by Bernard & Dryman, Consulting Forestry, Inc. In 2008 the NC Forest Service presented Colonel Breeze <br />with a certificate recognizing a NC Champion Big Tree located in front of the farmhouse (American Holly - 61 feet tall, 91" dbh). <br />Colonel Breeze has graciously allowed agencies such as the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to use his farm <br />for numerous training sessions where new conservationists learned to design and install conservation practices. <br />B.
