A <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on <br />Monday, July 7, 1975, in the Commissioners' Room at the Courthouse in <br />Hillsborough, N. C. <br />Members present were: Chairman Flora Garrett, Commissioners Norman <br />i Gustaveson, Jan Pinney, Norman [~ialker, and Richard [9ha,tted. <br />Members absent: None <br />S. M. Gattis, County Manager; Neal Evans, r^iscal Officer; Steve <br />Bernholz, County Attorney; and Betty June Hayes, Clerk were also present. <br />Chairman Garrett reported on activities of the Board during the <br />July 4th festivities held by the town of Carrboro. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gustaveson, seconded by Commissioner <br />Pinney, it was moved and adopted that the Board write to 2+Iayor Wells <br />thanking him for the dinner and events of July 4th. <br />Chairman Garrett requested that Commissioner TAalker report on the <br />annual NACO Conference that had recently been held in Hawaii. Commis- <br />sioner Walker reviewed the panels and presentations that he had attended. <br />Chairman Garrett referred to Item #1 on the Agenda: (Recognition of <br />any persons desiring to speak with the Beard of Commissioners). <br />No one came forth. <br />Chairman Garrett referred to Item #2 on the Agenda: (Consideration <br />of matters relating to road improvements). <br />John Wagner, a resident of the Fairview Subdivision, presented <br />facts in support of his request that Central, Terrell and Alma Streets, <br />Forrest Avenue and Freeland Drive be paved. <br />blr. Wagner pointed out that subdivision residents were not given <br />the same consideration as rural residents in that populated density and <br />traffic patterns were not taken into consideration. Mr. Wagner re- <br />quested the Board to write a letter to the Governor requesting him to <br />intervene in the matter of Fairview Subdivision. <br />Discussion ensued. <br />Upon the motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner <br />Gustaveson, it was moved and adopted that the Board write a letter to <br />Governor Holshouser explaining the situation that exist in the Fairview <br />Subdivision and request him to intervene in behalf of the residents of <br />the area, with copies of the letter being forwarded to Mr. F. D. Hornaday, <br />Highway Commissioner; Trish Stanford Hunt, Charles Vickery, John Watkins, <br />Division Engineer; and John Wagner. <br />Chairman Garrett referred to Item #5 on the Agenda: (Approval change <br />of grantee of funds by State Department of Mental Health for renovation <br />of ~dorthside School from Orange-Person-Chatham Mental Health Agency to <br />Orange County). <br />Commissioner Whitted presented a letter dated June 9, 1975, from <br />Pat Walton. The said letter requested that the Board complete the <br />necessary grant forms and specifically the Fact Sheet and Assurances <br />and that the Board approve a change in the Grantee from the Orange- <br />Person-Chatham Area Board to the Orange County Board of Commissioners. <br />Copies of the letter, the Assurances and Certification by Applicant <br />were presented to each Board Member. <br />
