The curator reviewed the materials
in the NC Room collection and found them to be historical in nature, however she found
no unique items in the collection. The curator also mentioned that minimum
preservation practices were acceptable for the materials housed in the new library.
Attachment E
Leland Little Auction Visit: The library received an appraisal of the Confederate Triad
currently on display in the NC Room from Leland Little Auction & Estate Sales. While
being considered unique, if not rare, it is still considered a "clever novelty" that might
have been commissioned for a gathering of Confederate veterans or for display at an
exposition. They value it at $1,000 based upon today's auction market. A copy of this
appraisal has been provided to Pam Jones for insurance purposes. A portrait of Thomas Ruffin's law
office, shown on a round tray and painted by me to be displayed in the said "Rebecca B
Wall Room"."
Library Board minutes of October 13, 1982 -excerpt
"Mrs. Massey told the Board about a conversation with Mr. Osterman in which he
asserted that Miss Wall was planning to leave a sizeable bequest to the Orange County
Public Library upon her death if certain conditions were met by the library board. The
board directed Mrs. Massey to meet with Lonnie Coleman, Miss Wall's attorney, to find
out if there is additional information the board should have concerning the bequest."
Library Board minutes of January 20, 1983 -excerpt
"Under unfinished business Mrs. Massey reported on her conversation with Mr. Lonnie
Coleman in which he assured her that Miss Rebecca Wall did intend to make a sizeable
contribution to the Orange County Public Library upon her death.
