ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: May 5, 2009 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~- - , <br />SUBJECT: Child Support Attorney Contract <br />DEPARTMENT: Child Support Enforcement PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />2009-2010 Contract <br />Janet Sparks, 245 2178 <br />PURPOSE: To contract with Coleman, Gledhill, Hargrave and Peek to provide legal <br />representation for Child Support Enforcement. <br />BACKGROUND: The Child Support program must have legal representation to be in <br />compliance with NC law and Federal regulations. An attorney is required for actions to establish <br />paternity and support orders, contempt hearings (300+/month), filings in bankruptcy and <br />worker's compensation cases, filing liens, and initiating and responding to appeals. The hourly <br />rate of $90 remains unchanged. Sixty-six percent (66%) of all charges will be reimbursed <br />through Federal Financial Participation (FFP). <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: The FY 2009-2010 budget request is $44,600. The County's cost after <br />Federal Financial Participation (FFP) will be $15,164. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The .Manager recommends the Board approve the contract and <br />authorize the Chair to sign. <br />
