ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: May 5, 2009 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~--~ <br />SUBJECT: Proclamation Recognizing Children's Mental Health Awareness Day <br />DEPARTMENT: County Commissioners PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Proposed Proclamation <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Gwen Harvey, Assistant County Manager, <br />245-2307 <br />PURPOSE: To approve a proclamation recognizing May 7, 2009 as Children's Mental Health <br />Awareness Day in Orange County. <br />BACKGROUND: The National Center for Child Traumatic Stress has requested the Board of <br />County Commissioners approve a proclamation recognizing Children's Mental Health <br />Awareness Day on May 7, 2009. This day is aimed at promoting positive youth development, <br />resiliency, recovery and the transformation of mental health service delivery for children and <br />youth and their families experiencing mental health needs. Counties across the state are being <br />urged by the National Center, in affiliation with the Duke University Hospital System, to help <br />highlight the message of hope, advocacy, and healing by issuing this proclamation and <br />commending it to their residents. Orange County has been a leader in supporting an innovative <br />network of local human service providers including KidSCope, Arc of Orange County, <br />Volunteers for Youth, and Adolescents in Need. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board of County Commissioners <br />approve the proposed proclamation and authorize the Chair to sign. <br />
