~~~~ <br />Chandler Cates of the Orange Fire District questioned the use of the South Orange <br />Fire District funds to support the Town of Carrboro Fire Department. He read from G.5_ <br />69.25.9 and 5. xe also questioned why the South Orange Fire District was not required <br />to file a budget request. <br />Discussion ensued. <br />Marion Clark of the Orange Fire District stated that he felt this was a legal <br />question and that the same should be decided by the County Attorney. <br />Bobby Efland inquired of the Board as to "Where do we stand on the land swap with <br />the other District?" <br />I. <br />Chairman Garrett advised Mr, Efland that a Public Hearing on this matter had been <br />scheduled for Tuesday, June 17th. <br />"' The Eno Fire District was represented by Mrs. Ted Coile, J. G. Flowers and <br />Eugene Wilson. <br />Mrs. Coile filed the fallowing budget request with the Board. <br />(For a copy of the same .see Minute Docket Book No. 8, Page No. .) <br />The Eno Budget request amounted to twenty thousand, one hundred twenty dollars <br />(520,120.D0) and would require a tax rate of eight (8C) cents. The Commissioners <br />reviewed the line item budget. <br />The New Hope Fire District was represented by John Kline, Louis Freeland, and <br />Kenneth Strayhorn. <br />Mr. Kline filed the following budget request with the Board. <br />(For a copy of the same see Minute Docket Book #8, Page No. .) <br />The 2aew Iiope budget request amounted to twenty-eight thousand, seven hundred <br />and one dollars (528,701.00) and would require a tax rate of ten cents (lOC). The <br />Commissioners reviewed the line item budget. Mr. Kline reviewed theā¢°reason for <br />entertaining the ten cents (10 C) tax rate as his District by necessity must build and <br />equip asub-station that would serve the Northern end of the District. The fact that <br />Chapel Hill was annexing a goodly portion of this District was creating financial <br />problems for the area. <br />The Orange Fire nistrict was represented by Chandler Cates and Marion Clark. <br />I Mr. Cates filed the following budget request with the Board. <br />(For a copy of the same see Minute Docket Book No. 8, Page No. .) <br />This budget request amounted to twenty-two thousand, five hundred dollars <br />($22,500.00) and the tax rate of four cents (4C). The Commissioners reviewed the <br />line item budget. <br />The Orange Grave Fire District was represented by Edward Johnson and Edward <br />Mann, Jr. <br />Mr. Johnson filed the following budget request with the Board. <br />(For a copy of the same see Minute Docket Book No. 8, Page No. .) <br />This budget request amounted to fifteen thousand, four hundred ninety-six <br />dollars (515,496.00) and the tax rate of eight cents (8C). The Commissioners re- <br />viewed the line item budget. zt was pointed out that this District had a large <br />amount of uncollected taxes and that this problem caused them financial concern. <br />Discussion ensued. <br />The South Orange Fire District did not file a budget. <br />Lindsey Efland inquired of the Board if this was not the time to entertain <br />the motion that monies be dispensed on August 30, November 30, February 28, and <br />May 31 to each of the Fire Districts. <br />The Board inquired of the Fiscal Officer if this policy would be feasible <br />for his department. <br />Mr. 1;vans replied that he felt a policy agreement would be needed to author- <br />_ ize payments to the Fire Districts on an established schedule. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker seconded by Commissioner Pinney it was <br />moved and adopted that the Fiscal Officer be authorized to disperse the accumul- <br />ated tax revenue to each of the Fire Districts on August 30, November 30, <br />February 28 , and "Say 31. <br />The airman announced that the Board would now hear the budget presenta- <br />tion from the Rescue Squads. <br />
