3.6 Public Lands and Scenic. Recreational, and State Natural Areas <br />The information provided by the Orange County Planning Department on park locations indicates <br />that there are no designated park lands, recreational areas, or state natural areas located within the <br />project area. To the northwest of the proposed site, approximately l.S miles away, is the Cane <br />Creek Reservoir, which is considered a natural and wildlife area. Approximately 4 miles to the <br />east is another natural area - Pickards Mountain. The closest park is the Hank Anderson <br />Community Park located 6 miles to the east, and the Springhill Park is located about 8 miles to the <br />southeast (see Exhibit G). <br />3.7 Areas of Archaeological or Historical Value <br />According to the Orange County Planning Department, there are not any known archaeological or <br />historical resources located within the proposed project site. There are several historic sites located <br />in the areas surrounding the proposed site (see Exhibit H and see Table 3 for a summary). Air quality at the site is considered <br />good as no nearby industries emit air pollutants. Farmland adjacent to the site is currently used for <br />the land application of biosolids from the Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA). Sludge <br />basins owned by OWASA are located to the east of Site OS6. <br />3.9 Noise Levels <br />The proposed project site is located off of NC Highway S4 where there is some traffic noise. <br />There is a feed supply store located to the south of the proposed site and OWASA's sludge basins <br />located east of the proposed site.
