c) Cultural and Archaeological Resources -the EA identifies a few historic sites
located in the vicinity of the subject property, however no historic or archaeological
resources are known to exist within the proposed project site. The EA states on Page 6:
"The site wil/ undergo a Historic ~a/ue Survey prior to acquisition to determine if any
archaeo%gica/ or historical properties in the vicinity will undergo any significant effects due
to the transfer station" and on Page 12: "If the Historic l/alue Survey identifies any
resources at Site 056, the North Carolina Department of Cultura/Resources, Division of
Archives and History, will be contacted prior to construction for recommendations "
Prior to any construction, a more detailed Cultural and Archaeological C & A) survey
of the property should be conducted consistent with Orange County's Cultural and
Archaeologicalical Survey Ordinance. C & A surveys (or Phase I Cultural Resources Surveys)
are conducted under the guidance of the NC Office of State Archaeology. That ofFce
receives the survey findings and provides guidance on how to proceed. For any questions,
please contact Tina Moon, ERCD Cultural Resources Specialist at cmoon@co.orange.nc.us
In conclusion, ERC® feels that these additional planned surveys are necessary to
avoid any significant adverse impacts to naturaB and cultural resources.
Let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss these findings.
cc: David Stancil
Tina Moon
Environment and Resource Conservation
PO Box 8181 /306-A Revere Road ~.
Hillsborough, NC 27278
(919) 245-2590
