<br />~l ~ ~~ <br />'~ <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />• BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: December 3, 2007 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. ~- ' tYl <br />SUBJECT: Contract with Town of Hillsborough for Animal Control and Emergency Animal <br />After Hours Call Services <br />DEPARTMENT: Animal Services Department PUBLIC HEARING: (YIN) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Bob Marotto, Animal Service Director, <br />Contract 986-2287 <br />• PURPOSE: To approve a contract to provide animal control and emergency animal after hour <br />call services to the Town of Hillsborough from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008 for a set fee <br />of $13,682. <br />BACKGROUND: A proposed contract has been developed with the Town of Hillsborough to <br />provide for animal control services and emergency animal after hour call services by the County <br />to the Town during FY 2007-2008. Following a review by the Animal Services Department, the <br />Budget Department, and the Town, the parties have agreed to a set fee for this service in the <br />amount of $13,682, effective July 1, 2007. <br />This is the first time a fee is being charged for the services that Orange County Animal Services <br />provides to Hillsborough., Historically, there has been no fee for these services, despite the fact <br />that in a given year as much as ten percent of County field responses are to service requests in <br />Hillsborough. Specii:fcally, the contract covers direct operating cost, overtime cost and a portion <br />of an Animal Control Officer's salary. Additional amounts of direct costs are expected to be <br />discussed in coming years in the course of contract renewal. <br />The principal responsibility of Animal Control Officers wit( be the enforcement of the County's <br />animal control ordinance within Hillsborough between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through <br />Friday. Outside these regular business hours, Animal Control Officers will provide on call <br />service in relation to rabies suspects, dangerous animals, animal injuries, and other emergency <br />situations. Such on call service will be provided from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Monday through <br />Friday, and on a 24 hour basis on Saturday and Sunday and holidays. <br />• <br />
