~~~ <br />Members to various committees.) <br />It was pointed out that Commissioner. Henry Walker has resigned as a member <br />of the Health Planning Council far Central North Carolina and that Mr. Walker <br />was the Boards representative on the Mental Healthe Board and Melvin Whitfield <br />on the Local Justice Committee. <br />Chairman Garrett stated she wished to resign from the community Action Board <br />and the Emergency Medical Council as time did not permit her to continue as a <br />member of these Boards. <br />commissioner Richard Whitted agreed to accept the appointment to the Jvint <br />Community Action Board. <br />Commissioner Whitted stated that his term on the Medical Health Committee <br />expired on December 31, 1974, as::.did the term of Dr. Conley. <br />Chairman Garrett requested the Board members to volunteer far positions <br />on the various Boards. <br />Commissioner San Pinney stated he would serve on the Local Justice <br />Committee and the Mental Health Council. <br />Commissioner Gustaveson stated he would serve on the Health Planning <br />council far Central North Carolina. <br />Chairman Garrett referred to Item #5 on the Agenda: (Discussion of some <br />aspects of the County Animal Control Program: A. How long are animals kept <br />before they are disposed of? B. what method are we using to dispose of unwanted <br />animals?) <br />The County Administrator detailed the requirements under State Statutes <br />relative to the retaining and disposing of unwanted animals. Discussion <br />ensued concerning the purchase of property for the animal shelter. The <br />new Commissioners were informed of the background information relative to <br />some of the proposed sites. <br />Commissioner Walker suggested the Board moved forward with the purchase <br />of the site, and construction ^f a Dog Pound. <br />It was agreed that Item #6 and Item #8 be deferred until the January 6th <br />meeting. <br />Chairman Garrett referred to Item #7 on the Agenda: (conclusion of <br />certain Tax Foreclosure Sales instituted by Mr. L. M. Cheshire.) <br />The County Administrator informed the Board that some Tax Foreclosure <br />sales had been held, however, no one appeared to bed on the property. He <br />stated that the county had incurred substanial cost in bringing these <br />actions and that the fees from the Court cost was 5373.42, the Clerk of <br />Court cost amounted to 52,505.68 and the Orange County Tax Collector was <br />due $5,458.55. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Whined, seconded by Commissioner Gustaveson, <br />it was moved and adopted, that the County Manager be authorized to settle the <br />Court cost and the Clerk of Court fees on the Tax suits and to proceed to <br />settle the matter with the Tax Collector and the monies for thi8 expenditure <br />be taken fzom the Contingency Fund, and that the sale of this property to <br />Orange County be confirmed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board.
