~~9 <br />It was agreed that an organizational meeting would be held on Tuesday, October <br />29, 1974, at 8 P.M. in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse in Hillsborough. <br />Commissioner Flora Garrett agreed to serve as Acting Chairman for this meeting. <br />The Clerk was instructed to write each member of the Citizens Sedimentation <br />Task Force advising them of the scheduled organizational meeting and to enclose <br />data concerning the erosion and sedimentation seminar. The Clerk was also <br />requested to write the Towns of Mebane, Hillsborough, Carrboro, and Chapel Hill <br />requesting them to appoint a member to the Citizens Sedimentation Task Farce. <br />Chairmen Walker advised the Board that the week of October 20-26 was being <br />observed as National Business Women's Week and that the Board had been asked to <br />adopt a Proclamation. <br />Upgn motion of Commissioner Richard E. Whitted, seconded by Commissioner <br />Melvin Whitfield, the following Proclamation was unanimously adopted: <br />W~[ERBAS, the National Federation of Business and Professional <br />Women's Clubs, Inc., is celebrating National $usiness Women's Week <br />the third week of October; and <br />WHEREAS, the Hillsborough Business and Professional Women's <br />Club, Inc., is composed of over thirty members and it is the only <br />Business and Professional Women`s Club in this county and it is <br />celebrating this event concurrently with the North Carolina Federa- <br />tion of Business and Professional Women`s Clubs, Inc. and the <br />National Federation of $usiness and Professional Women's Clubs; and <br />WHEREAS, the objectives of these celebrants are to elevate <br />the standards of women in business and in the professions; to <br />promote the interests of business and professional women; to bring <br />about a spirit of cooperation among business and professional <br />women of the United States; and to extend opportunities to business <br />and professional women through education along lines of industrial, <br />scientific, and vocational activities; and <br />WHEREAS, these women have been pursuing their objectives since. <br />1919 with dignity and diligence, through their local clubs and <br />their state federations, the $usiness and Professional Women's <br />Foundation, the Talent Bank of the National Federation and numerous <br />other activities well-known to our Nation; <br />THEREFORE, the Orange Cpunty $oard of Commissioners does <br />proclaim the week of October 20-26, 1974, as NATIONAL $USINESS <br />WOMEN'S WEEK TN THE COUNTY OF ORANGE and does commend this <br />observance to our citizens. <br />The County Administrator advised the Board that the County Attorney had <br />completed the formal agreement with the Town of Hillsborough concerning the <br />construction of a waste water treatment plant. <br />The Cpunty Administrator stated that the Town of Hillsborough had submitted <br />an easement on County property that is located on the north side of the river. <br />Mr. Gattis pointed out that this easement would cross property that is now under <br />option to the Orange County Medical Foundation, Inc. No action was taken on the <br />matter. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Richard E. Whitted, seconded-:by Commissioner <br />Melvin Whitfield, it was moved and adopted, that the County be authorized to <br />execute the agreement between the County and the Town of Hillsborough. <br />Chairman walker referred the Board to Item Tv on the Agenda: (Consideration <br />of the purchase of a garage and animal pound site.) <br />Mr. Gattis advised the Board that the County had obtained a Option from <br />James Bennett on a three (3) Acre site. Discussion::ensued. Chairman Norman <br />Walker stated that he had been approached by a landowner who had offered the <br />County an 8.4 ,acre site located Northeast of Hillsborough. This land could <br />be purchased at less cost than the three (3) acre tract now under consideration <br />by the $oard. biscussion ensued. The County Administrator recommended the Bennett <br />site for the dog pound. It was agreed that the County should investigate the 8.4 <br />acre tract prior to reaching any decision on:-the matter of a garage and animal <br />pound site. <br />~' <br />Chairman Walker inquired it there was any further business to com before the <br />Board. He stated that the County Administrator had requested ancExecutive Session. <br />'- EXECUTIVE SESSION <br />The County Administrator and the Chairman of the Board reported to the Board <br />their opinions of their meeting with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board relative <br />to the disposition of the Northside School property. Discussion ensued on the <br />~ purchase price of the property that was being requested by`:the Chapel Hill-Carrboro <br />School $oard. No action was taken on the matter. There being no further business <br />the Executive Session was adjourned. <br />
