Rajas Montes de tJca, 245~~100 <br />PURPOSE: To proclaim the week of April 1 ~ through ~ S, 2409 as Public Safety <br />Telecommunications vlCeek in Urange County. <br />BACKGROUND: Two national organizations recognize and proclaim this week on behalf of <br />telecommunicators nationwide. Those organizations are the Association of Public Safety <br />Communications Officials- International and the National Emergency Numbers Association. <br />Telecommunicators in Grange County are active in both organizations, working toward <br />enhancing the quality of service~that communications centers provide. <br />Each day hundreds of Grange County residents and those passing through rely on the expertise <br />and dedication of public safety telecommunicators. These professionals help save countless <br />lives by responding to emergency calls, dispatching law enforcement, fire and emergency <br />medics[ personnel and equipment and providing support to the residents and visitors of the <br />County. Their skills in high-pressure situations allow rapid emergency response, aid and <br />compassion in times of great distress and critics[ decision~making within seconds. <br />Urange County Communications is the primary answering point for a[1 emergency and non- <br />emergency service calls in the County. The communications center processed ~87,40o calls <br />this pest year, which is approximately 5~ 2 calls per day. The communications center operates <br />twenty~four hours a day, seven days a week with a staff of twenty-six full time <br />telecommunicatorsond two part-time telecommunicators. <br />Orange County's telecommunicators continue to strive far excellence in their performance and <br />are among the highest trained in the state. Orange County's telecommunicators provide a <br />valuable service to the residents, visitors and to the County's public safety providers. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None. <br />RECOMMENDATION~S~: The Manager recommends the Board approve the Proclamation and <br />authorize the Ghair to sign it. <br />
