- -400 <br />MINUTES OF THE ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />AUGUST 5, 1974 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, <br />August 5, 1974, at ten o'clock a.m: in the Commissioners Room in the Courthouse <br />at Hillsborough, N. C. <br />Members present were: Chairman Norman Walker, Commissioners Flora Garrett, <br />Henry S. Walker, Melvin Whitfield, and Richard E. Whitted. <br />i <br />Members absent: None <br />Chm. Walker referred to the Agenda. <br />Item I (Plats for approval from the County Planning Board) <br />Chairman Walker recognized Clayton Haithcock, the county Planning Officer. <br />Mr. Haithcock presented the following plats: <br />Preliminary Plats: <br />1. Haithcock Subdivision, property of J. C. Garrett in Eno Township said <br />plat was dated.July, 1974. . <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Henry S. Walker, seconded by Commissioner <br />Melvin Whitfield, it was moved and adopted that the preliminary plat of <br />Haithcock Subdivision be approved. <br />2. Piney Mountain Hollow, property of Dick and Anne Havens, the plat was <br />datted June 29, 1974. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Melvin Whitfield, seconded by Commissioner <br />Henry S. Walker it was moved and adopted that the preliminary plat of Piney <br />Mountain Hollow be approved. <br />Final Plats: <br />1. Richard Jeffries in Eno Township the plat was dated June 6, 1974. <br />Upon motion of commissioner Flora Garrett, seconded by commissioner <br />Richard E. Whitted, it was moved and adopted that the final plat of Richard <br />Jeffries be approved. <br />2. Abel Johnson Heirs, four (4) tracts, in Chapel Hill Twp. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Henry S. Walker, seconded by Commissioner <br />Richard E. Whitted, it was moved that the final plat of the Abel Johnson Heirs <br />property be approved. <br />3. Valinda B. and I. S. Newton, Jr. property, two (2) tract, in Chapel <br />Hill Twp. the plat was .dated July 10, 1974. <br />Discussion ensued concerning this plat. upon motion of Commissioner <br />Henry S. Walker, seconded by Commissioner Melvin Whitfield, it was moved that <br />the final plat of the property of.Valinda B. and I. S. Newton, Jr. be approved. <br />Chairman walker called for a vote on the motion. Commissioners Norman <br />Walker, Henry S. Walker, Melvin Whitfield, and Richard E. Whitted voted aye. <br />Commissioner Flora Garrett voted nay. <br />4. Planned Unit Development of Samuel Putnam in Chapel Hill Twp. <br />Mr. Haithcock advised the Board that this plat was being presented in <br />conjuction with the rezoning request of Mr. Putnam. The rezoning request <br />was to zone ten (10) acres in Chapel Hill Township from a residental area to <br />a planned unit development. Discussion ensued concerning the rezoning request <br />and the Public Hearing that had been held on this request. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Richard E. Whitted, seconded by Commissioner <br />Melvin Whitfield, it was moved and adopted that the rezoning of Samuel Putnam <br />to rezone ten (10) acres in Chapel Hill Township from a residential area to <br />a planned unit development area be approved. <br />Item II (Delegations speaking in.behalf of the Work Activity Center) <br />Chairman Walker recognized Margaret Berry of Cedar Grove, N. C. Mrs. <br />Berry stated that she was present to speak in behalf of the Work Activity <br />Center and the Day Care Centers. She emphasized the need for both of these <br />
