2. GOOD WORK <br />GOOD WORK requested $37,000 of Community Development funds to continue its small <br />business development program in Chapel Hill. <br />Staff Response: There is no recommendation to budget funds for GOOD WORK <br />at this time. We have not received information documenting the success of its <br />programs running in Chapel Hill. <br />3. Request for Neighborhood Revitalization Funds <br />We received a request from EmPOWERment Inc., the Northside Community Association, <br />the Pine Knolls Neighborhood Watch, the Lloyd Street Neighborhood Association and the <br />Carr Court Neighborhood Association requesting $100,000 of Community Development <br />funds for Neighborhood Revitalization Activities in the Pine Knolls and Northside <br />Neighborhoods. <br />Staff Response: Portions of these requests are funding in the 1999-2000 <br />Community Development and HOME Program Plans. <br />4. American Red Cross <br />On February 26, 1999, we received a request from the American. Red Cross asking the <br />Council to consider granting the organization $75,000 over three years to purchase a <br />building for their offices. <br />Staff Response: It has been determined that this request would not be an eligible <br />Community Development activity. Further, the project would not meet the HUD <br />requirement that the project serve households earning less than 80% of the area <br />median income. <br />5. Chapel Hill -Carrboro YMCA <br />The Chapel Hill -Carrboro YMCA requested Community Development funds to continue <br />operation of After-School Programs held at the Pine Knolls and South Estes Drive Family <br />Resource Centers. <br />Staff Response: Approximately $17, 500 of 1999-2000 Community Development <br />funds for this activity. <br />6. Rosemary Street Parking Lot <br />On March 15, 1999, a report was made to the Chapel Hill Town Council there was <br />continuing collaboration with the Town of Carrboro to develop a parking lot at the corner <br />of Rosemary Street and Sunset Drive. The Council has previously budgeted $15,000 of <br />Community Development funds for this project, however, additional funds may be needed <br />7 <br />
