The project is in the design development phase. Currently, the building is designed
with 123,134 square feet and has a State calculated capacity of 732. The building
design will incorporate a number of energy efficient and conservation features, such as
daylighting, rainwater collection systems, solar hot water, photovoltaic fighting, and
efficient fluorescent lighting.
The middle school project budget is $19.8 million and includes construction, site
development, furniture and equipment, professional fees, technology purchases, and
non - personnel start up costs. Site preparation is expected to begin in the fall of 1999
and the school is scheduled to open for the 2001 -02 school year.
Relationship with UNC
Within the school building, 2,000 square feet of space are designed for use by the UNC
School of Education.
