Experiences of Estes Hills' Staff
<br />Whose Supplement Is Capped
<br />We know of seven experienced teachers at Estes Hills affected by the 10% supplement cap.
<br />The following will provide a sample of the kinds of experiences these teachers brought to our
<br />district and the kind of work they do in addition to their classroom responsibilities. Together these
<br />teachers have 6 7 years which are not credited in their supplement.
<br />Masters degree, National Board Certification, AG and Technology certification, introduced Math
<br />Superstars at Estes, introduced Writer -in- Residence at Estes, wrote a grant to get 6 computers for
<br />Estes, received 2 Public School Foundation Grants, 2 Explore Grants and 1 grant from
<br />Burroughs - Wellcome Teacher Development Program Grant, was part of the group of teachers who
<br />wrote the test pack for science for the NC EOG, collaborated with the NC Botanical Gardens to
<br />write the visiting plant program and piloted it in her classroom, led technology workshops, lead
<br />teacher for technology at Estes Hills for 3 years, and assessor for National Board Certification
<br />portfolios.
<br />Masters degree, National Board certification, Mentor certification, Reading/Language Arts
<br />certification, served as assessor for National Board Certification Portfolios, NC Outstanding
<br />Service Award in Elementary Science Education, PTA nomination for Teacher of the Year, NCAE
<br />School Nominee - Teacher of the Year, recipient of Audubon Scholarship to attend national
<br />summer program, taught science curriculum workshops for three summers to Guildford County
<br />teachers, developed 20 units of study based on new science curriculum for Guildford County,
<br />worked with NCDPI to develop science test for elementary students, led working groups for
<br />beginning teachers, contributor to McGraw Hill Science Textbook, presenter at NCCIRA and
<br />NCSTA conferences, and educational consultant for IBM "Writing to Read."
<br />Masters degree, Reading certification, Mentor certification, Reading Recovery certification,
<br />received the Terry Sanford Creative Teacher of the Year Award, presenter at Migrant Workers
<br />State Convention, presenter at NC IRA and several other IRA workshops, led CHCCS Summer
<br />Literacy Institutes for 2 years, trained parents and K -2 teachers to take running records, received
<br />two Public School Foundation grants, introduced Accelerated Reader to Estes Hills, and served
<br />one year on Estes Hills SGC.
<br />Masters degree, 16 years experience, most at a residential school for BED children,
<br />consultant/trainer for programs serving BED children both in public schools and also youth
<br />training schools, mental health centers, group homes, ESS, etc., Training Specialist for North
<br />Central Mental Health Region and Eastern Mental Health Region, when ED programs started in
<br />public schools helped DPI establish rules and regulations and helped set up programs across the
<br />state, and set up programs for "Willie M" children (and "Willie" himself).
<br />Masters degree, Regular and Special Education certification (LD, BEH, EMH, and Early
<br />Childhood), Reading Recovery certification, 1997 -98 Teacher of the Year nominee, 2 years SGC,
<br />Technology Committee, School Literacy Committee, and presenter of numerous workshops for
<br />parents and staff on fostering literacy skills at home, guide reading, and literacy assessment
<br />techniques).
