5/26/99 <br />Appendix A <br />Summaries of Existing Recreation and Parks Plans <br />1988 - Orange County Master Recreation and Parks Plan <br />The primary recommendations for the provision of County -wide <br />recreation services focus on specific policies for park development <br />within the townships in the County. The majority of land for the <br />proposed parks shall be provided by public agencies throughout the <br />County. Generally, the Master Plan recommends: <br />• The development of community parks within Bingham, Cheeks, <br />Cedar Grove, Eno, and Little River townships <br />• Four district parks scattered throughout county <br />• Construction of swimming pools at Chapel Hill and Orange High <br />Schools <br />In determining the priorities of park development and land acquisition, <br />the Plan cites the requirement to consider immediate or pressing <br />needs of the community first. Priorities for land acquisition and <br />development include the following: <br />I. Providing equitable distribution of recreational opportunities <br />2. Providing for areas of the County not currently being served <br />3. Providing for the greatest number of possible users <br />Chapel Hill Master Park and Recreation Plan <br />To be provided by Chapel Hill staff <br />Carrboro Master Park and Recreation Plan <br />To be provided by Carrboro staff <br />Hillsborough Park and Recreation Plan <br />The Town's Master Plan goals would: <br />1. Use the Town's natural and historical heritage as a recreational <br />resource <br />2. Acquire and maintain a neighborhood park for informal use in each <br />neighborhood <br />3. Meet the recreational needs of the Town's diverse population <br />4. Acquire and maintain playing fields, courts and other facilities for <br />organized sports and fitness <br />
