A number of specific
measures have been suggested both for the purchase of property, and
for the appropriateness of siting facilities. The components of this
system would become the basis of the Recreation and Parks
Acquisition section of the County's Resource Acquisition Program (see
Section V).
Potential Land Acquisition Criteria (examples);
• The existence of matching funds from requesting jurisdiction;
• Grants and other funding opportunities;
• Completion of existing projects with an adopted facility plan;
• Identified in the Inventory of'Natural Areas and Wildlife Habitats of
Orange County, N.C.;
• Compatibility of planned use with adjacent land uses
(Rogerson /Oakwood neighborhood park);
• Appropriate intensity of use for the area (Merritt Pasture at NC 54
and US 15/501);
• Location (Northern Community Park);
• Promotes continuity of wildlife corridors, greenways and linear
parks;
• Land adjacent to new schools (Efland- Cheeks, Southern Park);
• Land for active recreation is suitable and appropriate for uses (i.e.,
not ecologically- sensitive areas);
• Furthers purposes of Upper Eno and New Hope Corridor
preservation efforts;
• Access (transportation) is safe and easily - accomplished;
• Meeting multiple goals (above) gets higher weighting;
Potential Facilities Siting Criteria:
* Facilities should be centrally located for population to be served
* Both active and low - impact (natural area) recreation opportunities
13
