~ - sso <br />~ Y Commissioner Flora Garrett stated she felt there was a need for the program. The <br />County performs many services for its citizens that ware not needed by all persona and <br />cited as an example the Farm Extansien Program. There was an unquestioned need for the <br />program. Government statistics indicated that there were several thousand under fed <br />persons in Orange County. <br />Chairman Norman Walker disagreed with these statistics and stated that if those <br />under fed or hungry persons 1<rould contact the Social Services Agency ample food could <br />be made available to them. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Melvin Whitfield, seconded by Commissioner Henry 5, <br />Walker, it was moved, that the County not accept the proposal far a Food Supplement <br />for the Elderly. <br />Commissioner Flora Garrett inauired if the Board would object to the operation of the <br />Food Program if private funds could be secured to support the project. Commissioner <br />Melvin Whitfield stated he would have no objections to the Foed Program as long as County <br />funds ware not involved, Commissioner Flora Garrett moved that the County would not <br />object to the institution of the Food Program for the Elderly if private funds could be <br />secured to support the program.
