ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: August 17, 1999
Action Agenda
Item No. R _ ~
SUBJECT: Purchase of Two Monitor/Defibrillators for Orange County EMS
DEPARTMENT: Purchasing/Emergency PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No
Management
ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT:
None Pam Jones, ext 2650
Nick waters, ext 3030
TELEPHONE NUMBERS:
Hillsborough 732-8181
Chapel Hill 968-4501
Durham 688-7331
Mebane 336-227-2031
PURPOSE: To consider awarding a contract for the purchase of two Monitor/Defibrillators
BACKGROUND: In December of 1998 Orange County awarded a bid to Physio Control
Corporation of Redmond, Washington for the purchase of five (5) Model LifePak 12
Monitor/Defibrillators, with accessories, at a contract cost of $15,992 each. This bid award was
a "Piggyback" of Federal bid number FSS V797P-3549j. That equipment has been successfully
deployed for use by Initial Response Vehicle (IRV) paramedics, and is allowing the medics to
provide a higher standard of cardiac care than was previously possible.
Orange County EMS would like to purchase two additional units. Physio Control will allow the
County to purchase two additional units at same cost of the bid awarded in December 1998.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funds have been allocated in the 1999-2000 CIP for the purchase of
these two Monitor/Defibrillators.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the award of the
contract to Physio Control Corporation of Redmond, Washington in the amount of $15,992 each
for purchasing two (2) Model LifePak 12 with accessories.
