Box 8181 , <br />Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278 <br /> For more information: Paul Thames, County Engineer, 732-8181, ezt. 2300 <br />(919) 732-8181;968-4501; <br />688-7331; 227-2031 Orange County has issued a Stage 3 water shortage alert for customers <br />Extension 2130 of the Orange Alamance Water System and the Town of Hillsborough, and all <br /> other raw water supplies used by the two systems. <br />Fax: (919) 644-0246 <br /> The alert triggers mandatory water conservation restrictions. A stage 3 <br />Prepared by: Buck Tredway, alert goes into effect when the level of Lake Orange, the primary water supply <br />Information Specialist, for the two water systems, falls 37 inches or more below capacity. <br />Extension 2126 <br />Fax: (919) 644-0246 Violation of the mandatory water restrictions is a misdemeanor and <br /> carries a fine of up to $50 or 30 days in jail. <br />e-mail: btredway~na,co.oran~e.nc.us <br /> Citizens are required to observe mandatory water conservation <br /> measures. During the alert period, it is unlawful to: <br />• Water lawns, grass, shrubbery, trees and flower and vegetable gardens <br />except between the hours of 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. <br />• Fill newly constructed swimming/wading pools, or refill existing pools <br />that have been drained. A minimal amount of water maybe used to <br />maintain the level of pools in operation at the time the Stage 3 alert was <br />issued. <br />• Operation of water-cooled air conditioning systems or other equipment <br />that does not recycle cooling water, except when health and safety are <br />adversely affected. <br />• Washing automobiles, trucks, trailers, boats, airplanes or any other type <br />of mobile equipment, including commercial washing. <br />• Washing down outside areas, such as driveways, sidewalks, patios, <br />parking lots, building exteriors, etc. <br />• Operating or filling any ornamental fountain, pool, pond, etc. <br />• Serving drink water in restaurants or other food establishments except <br />on request. <br />• Using water from fire hydrants except for fire suppression or other <br />emergency. <br />• Using water for dust control or compacting. <br />• Intentionally wasting water. <br />Customers of the Orange Alamance Water system or the town of <br />Hillsborough who also use well water must post a sign furnished by the County <br />giving notice that well water or water from another water supply is in use. <br />www,co:orange,nc.us # # # <br />
