The Budget Director has researched this topic and developed a report which outlines <br />a number of models the Board may wish to consider as it determines the guidance it will provide <br />to the County Manager concerning school funding for the 2000 -2001 budget. <br />The Board of Commissioners is slated to discuss this topic with the Orange County and Chapel <br />Hill - Carrboro Boards of Education at a joint work session on September 15, 1999. The Board <br />may wish to discuss the report and provide guidance to the Manager and staff regarding what <br />school funding options should be included for discussion at the September 15 work session. <br />The September 15 agenda will also include as an informational item the budgets as actually <br />adopted by the two school boards for FY 1999 -2000. As attachments for this agenda item, both <br />school systems have submitted their 1999 -2000 budgets for the Commissioners' information. <br />The Manager can relay to the schools any questions or comments the Commissioners may <br />have at the August 31 work session about the school budgets, so that the two school systems <br />can be prepared to respond at the September 15 meeting. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None at this time. The Board's decisions at some future meeting about <br />school funding parameters will play a significant role in shaping the County's budget in FY2000- <br />2001 and beyond. <br />
