from Master Recreation and Parks Report <br />number of specific measures have been suggested both for the <br />purchase of property, and for the appropriateness of siting <br />facilities. The components of this system would become the basis <br />of the Recreation and Parks Acquisition section of the County's <br />Resource Acquisition Program (see Section V). <br />Potential Land Acquisition Criteria (examplesZ <br />The existence of matching funds from requesting jurisdiction; <br />Grants and other funding opportunities; <br />Completion of existing projects with an adopted facility plan; <br />Identified in the Inventory of Natural Areas and Wildlife Habitats of <br />Orange County, N.C.; <br />Compatibility of planned use with adjacent land uses <br />(Rogerson/Oakwood neighborhood park); <br />* Appropriate intensity of use for the area (Merritt Pasture at NC 54 and <br />US 15/501); <br />Location (Northern Community Park); <br />Promotes continuity of wildlife corridors, greenways and linear parks; <br />Land adjacent to new schools (Efland-Cheeks, Southern Park); <br />Land for active recreation is suitable and appropriate for uses (i.e., not <br />ecologically-sensitive areas); <br />Furthers purposes of Upper Eno and New Hope Corridor preservation <br />efforts; <br />Access (transportation) is safe and easily-accomplished; <br />Meeting multiple goals (above) gets higher weighting; <br />Potential Facilities Siting Criteria: <br />Facilities should be centrally located for population to be served <br />Both active and low-impact (natural area) recreation opportunities may <br />exist on-site; <br />School/park joint use sites are preferred; <br />Facility addresses a broad range of needs; <br />An adopted facility plan must exist; <br />Promotes pedestrian, bicycle, and public transportation) <br />Intensity of uses should be compatible with community (i.e. lighting) <br />
