5/26/99 <br />Appendix L <br />Resolution:.7oint Parks and Resource Lands Council <br />.RESOLUTION <br />A Joint Parks and Resource Lands Council <br />WHEREAS, the Towns of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and Orange <br />County have discussed long-term parks and recreation issues in the past <br />several years, and <br />WHEREAS, these discussions have led to a Recreation and Parks Work <br />Group (1996) and a Report on Coordination (1997) to refine and explore <br />coordination efforts among the jurisdictions, and <br />WHEREAS, the Joint Master Recreation and Parks .Work Group has, in its <br />deliberations, benefited from ideas and possible means of collaboration <br />developed as part of the work .group process, and <br />WHEREAS, consistent with the Schools and Land Use Councils work in the <br />co-location of parks and schools, the Work Group has provided criteria and <br />details that might enhance the potential for coordination in this and other <br />areas of long-term parks needs, and <br />WHEREAS, the Work Group has recommended that a new Joint Parks and <br />Resource Lands Council be formed to follow-up on the work of this body and <br />implement future efforts toward coordination of recreation and parks <br />planning; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the <br />agrees to create a Joint Parks and Resource Lands Council along the lines <br />specified in the Joint Work Group report. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the instructs its <br />Manager to meet with the Managers of each jurisdiction to develop and <br />report back on a charge, mission and structure for the Parks and Resource <br />Lands Council, with the goal of a first meeting of the Council in the fall of <br />1999. <br />This, the day of , 1999 <br />To be signed by chair and mayors of Chapel Hill Carrboro Hillsborough and <br />Orange Count: <br />
