Criteria for Evaluating Possible Lan~1 Acauisiti <br />Subject to approval by the Orange County Board of Commissioners, a <br />system should be developed to evaluate how well potential land <br />acquisitions meet the goals and objectives. A number of specific <br />measures have been suggested both for the purchase of property, and <br />for the appropriateness of siting facilities. The components of this <br />system would become the basis of the Recreation and Parks <br />Acquisition section of the County's Resource Acquisition Program (see <br />Section V). <br />Potential Land Acquisition Criteria (examples. <br />* The existence of matching funds from requesting jurisdiction; <br />* Grants and other funding opportunities; <br />* Completion of existing projects with an adopted facility plan; <br />* Identified in the Inventory of Natural Areas and Wildlife Habitats of <br />Orange County, N.C.; <br />* Compatibility of planned use with adjacent land uses <br />(Rogerson/Oakwood neighborhood park); <br />* Appropriate intensity of use for the area (Merritt Pasture at NC 54 <br />and US 15/501); <br />* Location (Northern Community Park); <br />* Promotes continuity of wildlife corridors, greenways and linear <br />parks; <br />* Land adjacent to new schools (Efland-Cheeks, Southern Park); <br />* Land for active recreation is suitable and appropriate for uses (i.e., <br />not ecologically-sensitive areas); <br />* Furthers purposes of Upper Eno and New Hope Corridor <br />preservation efforts; <br />* Access (transportation) is safe and easily-accomplished; <br />* Meeting multiple goals (above) gets higher weighting; <br />Potential Facilities Siting Criteria• <br />* Facilities should be centrally located for population to be served <br />* Both active and low-impact (natural area) recreation opportunities <br />13 <br />
