BOGIE $ i~:,GE ~~-`~ <br />Commissioner Flora f}arrett stated that she Pelt it was the responsibility of <br />the Board to fill the vacancy that had been created by the resignation of lra <br />Ward, therefore, she was suggesting that the Beard meet and discuss the matter <br />prior to the September 7th deadline. Discussion ensued. <br />Commissioner Richard E. Whitted stated that he felt the Boaz~d should call a <br />special meeting for the purpose aP trying to reach an agreement upon the matter. <br />Chairman Norman Walker stated that he wanted to instruct the Clerk to advise <br />the Clerk aP Court that the Board was unable to agree on a nominee to fill the <br />vacancy and to request the Clark aP Court to make the appointment. <br />Commissioner Henry S. Walker stated that he agreed with the statements that had <br />been made by Chairman Norman Walker. <br />Tha County Attorney advised the Board that the Clerk of Court would have ten <br />(10) days Prom the receipt of the official notifiastion from the $oard in which to <br />make the appointment. <br />Commissioners Flora Garrett and Richard E. Whitted stated that they were willing <br />to go along with either one oP the Tour (4) persons whose names had been submitted to <br />the Board by the Executive Committee oP the Democratic Party. <br />Chairman Norman Walker stated that he had been trying for sixty (60) days to get <br />the Board to agree on who should be appointed and he felt that nothing could be <br />aacompliahed by another meeting and he was of the opinion that the Board should <br />instruct the Clerk to advise the Clerk oP Court to make the appointment. <br />Commissioner Henry S. Walker stated that hs Pelt the Board was deadlocked on <br />the matter. <br />IIpon motion oP Conanisaioaer Henry S. Walker, seconded by Commissioner Flora <br />Garrett, it was moved, that the Board oP Commissioners instruct their Clerk to notify <br />the Clerk of Superior Court that the Board was deadlocked over the appointment oP a <br />new Board member and that the Clerk oP Superior Court be requested to Fill the <br />vacancy that exists on ths.Board of Commissioners. <br />The Chairman filed with the Clerk the list oP names that had been submitted from <br />the Democratic Ekecutive Committee ae nominees to Pi11 the vacancy created by the <br />resignation oP lra A.
