ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />DRAFT RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT <br />FOR FIRST CITIZENS BANK BIG SWEEP <br />STREAMS CLEANUP PROGRAM <br />WHEREAS First Citizens Bank sponsors the Big Sweep Program as a statewide effort to <br />remove litter from streams, lakes, and waterways by using the efforts of <br />local citizens, civic and environmental interest group volunteers; <br />WHEREAS Michael Neal and MANA Environmental, Inc. are volunteering time and <br />resources to coordinate Orange County's effort in the Big Sweep; <br />WHEREAS other local jurisdictions including Chapel Hill and OWASA are encouraging <br />volunteers to participate; <br />WHEREAS Big Sweep as a volunteer effort is consistent with the Orange County <br />Commissioners goals to protect the environment; <br />NOW THEREFORE THE Orange County Board of Commissioners herebyresolve the <br />following: <br />• To declare September 18, 1999 as Orange County Big Sweep 1999 Day <br />• To direct the County Manager to solicit staff members to volunteer as zone <br />captains to assist and coordinate volunteers on September 18 with the cleanup <br />• To direct the County Manager to solicit county employees as volunteers in <br />addition to the general public <br />• To provide dumpsters at cleanup sites and transport the litter collected to the <br />landfill at the completion of the event (estimated cost to the County of <br />$500.00) <br />This is the 7th day of September, 1999. <br />Alice M.
