PLANNING INITIATIVES HURRICANE FLOYD <br />1. 2 conference call briefings with National Weather Service and State Emergency <br />Management. <br />2. Provided email briefings to all municipal departments and managers, university, <br />hospital, forestry service, department of transportation, electric utilities, owasa, <br />school systems, county department heads and employees and emergency services. <br />3. Placed all emergency management personnel on active duty as of 10 PM Sept. 15, <br />1999. <br />4. Provided a news release for the citizens to be published 09/15/99. <br />5. Holding meetings with fire departments on preparation and response efforts. <br />6. Coordinated with American Red Cross on the use of amateur radios for redundant <br />communications network, and on damage assessment readiness, and on shelter <br />operations. <br />7. Will open 2 shelters at 6 PM 091599 Wednesday afternoon: Chapel Hill High School <br />and CW Stanford Middle School. <br />8. Contacted all nursing homes, rest homes, assisted living facilities, private schools and <br />group homes to ensure their preparedness and assist them with shortcomings. <br />Future Initiatives <br />1. Touch base with OCIM and DSS and others on the unmet needs committee. <br />2. Like to hold luncheon briefing for the chair and mayors at 12 PM 091599 <br />Wednesday. <br />3. Will do final reviews with certain departments in the morning 091599. <br />4. Will coordinate readiness with the state. <br />5. Will hold a final readiness meeting tomorrow at 3 PM 091599 Wednesday with all <br />agencies. <br />6. EOC activation at 5 PM 091599 Wednesday. <br />7. Continue to monitor damage for damage assessment to enable a quick start in <br />recovery operations. <br />
