Summary of Map Actions (SOMA) for flood panel 9890 dated May 16, 2008, which changed the suffix from"K" to
"L"and involved amendments entirely within the Town of Chapel Hill,
2. Letters of Map Amendment (LOMA) 07-04-6156R (Cates Creek Boulevard crossing at Cates Creek), 08-04-2897A
(Hartwell residence at 300 Lawrence Road), 08-04-2899A (Ferry residence at 1325 Farmview Road), 08-04-2898A
(Isbell residence at 4206 Dunkeld Way),and 08-04-2900A(Morgan residence at 1530 Park Lane),and
3. Letters of Map Revision (LOMA) 06-04-BQ22P (dam removal on the Eno River at Pleasant Green Road), 06-04-
C141P (driveway for the Lutz residence across Buckwater Creek), 07-04-6156R(Cates Creek Boulevard crossing at
Cates Creek),and 08-04-1666P(Churton Grove Phase 4 bridge over Stroud's Creek)
A LOMA is an acknowledgement by FEMA that the mapped floodplain does not reflect the true
base flood elevation, as applied to a specific house or accessory building. They are applied for when
a property owner believes his or her house, garage, barn, or other structure is inappropriately
mapped within a floodplain. An elevation certificate is required to verify the owner's assertions.
The FIRM and the underlying Flood Insurance Study does not change, but the flood insurance
status for the house or accessory structure does change.
A LOMR alters the base flood elevation of the floodplain and the underlying Flood Insurance Study,by
either lowering or raising the elevation depending on the specific situation. It is required for any stream
crossing or dam removal involving a mapped special flood hazard area(floodplain). LOMRs physically
and legally alter FEMA FIRMs.
This letter is being sent to inform you that the Orange County Board of County Commissioners has
scheduled a PUBLIC HEARING to consider amendments to the Orange County Zoning Ordinance and
Zoning Atlas to incorporate Flood Damage Prevention standards as a new Special Flood Hazard Area
Zoning Overlay District.
The Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance presently affects your property. By adding this standards to our Zoning Ordinance a
notification must occur. This change in code location does not cause any additional restrictions to your property. The affects
