We found Randy Mundt and Mark Stafford to be very helpful and
courteous. As noted in your letter, Orange County's commitment to floodplain management is
paramount.
Orange County respectfully requests an extension of time to complete the amendments to our
Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance. Our procedures to amend any ordinance is more
involved than that which is outlined in the State Zoning Enabling Ordinance. First, staff must
obtain approval from the Board of County Commissioners to place an item on the legal
advertisement for the required Public Hearing. Secondly, Public Hearings for ordinance
amendments are only scheduled four (4) times a year (February, May, August, and
November).
We have missed the November 2008 Quarterly Public Hearing. The next available meeting
date is the fourth Monday in February 2009. We propose to have amendments complete by
late March. Our Board of County Commissioners has a Quarterly Public Hearing and then
makes their decision after minutes of the meeting are prepared.
We did receive a copy of the correction checklist for the Orange County Flood Damage
Prevention Ordinance yesterday by email, which we did not receive with your November 7,
2008 letter.
