3 <br /> In anticipation of the Federal government consideration of a federal stimulus legislative <br /> package to stimulate the nation's economy, the preliminary projects are proposed for the <br /> Board's consideration. We believe we have a number of projects that when developed <br /> will create a number jobs opportunities that will put people back to work, stimulate the <br /> local economy and create a positive impact regionally. <br /> Broadband: Broadband coverage is limited in rural areas of Orange County due to a lack <br /> of cabled TV/Broadband service and limited telecommunication tower wireless access. <br /> The County owns property throughout the rural areas and would consider installing <br /> towers of public safety, public service delivery and private sector to use to promote rural <br /> economic development and home-based businesses to reduce transportation and pollution <br /> monopoles are pre-engineered, their deployment after zoning processing would be <br /> expeditious. <br /> Efland Sewer System and Buckhorn Community Sewer Project: The projected cost <br /> for the currently designed system, include the upgrading the existing twenty year old <br /> McGowan Creek pump station is approximately $4.6 million. All design documents are <br /> completed and the preliminary engineer's report is completed. <br /> Fairview Park: The park, located in the Fairview community in northern Hillsborough, <br /> NC, serves a predominantly minority community and features a ball field,picnic shelter, <br /> trails and basketball courts, among other amenities. The site is located partially on a <br /> former municipal landfill, and will require remediation for additional park facilities. The <br /> cost is $1,700,000. <br /> Highways Projects: The attached list of NC DOT projects is provided for your review. <br /> Although, the County is not responsible for highways, you may wish to review the list <br /> DOT is proposing for the stimulus package. <br /> Orange County Chapel Hill-Carrboro Computerize Signal System $5,000,000 <br /> Orange County 1-40-85 to Durham County Grind and reseal joints $1,500,000 <br /> line <br /> Orange County NC 54 Alamance Co line to Pavement Strengthen $1,500,000 <br /> SR 1107 <br /> Orange/Alamance Buckhorn Rd to 1-40/85 split Mill and resurface $15,000,000 <br /> Orange County NC 86 to Person Co. line Rehab Intersection,turn $3,000,000 <br /> lane/signal <br /> Northern Human Services Center: The project will substantially increase the size, <br /> capacity and reliability of the onsite wastewater treatment system (WWTS) at the <br /> Northern Human Services Center(NHSC). The increase in capacity will allow for full <br /> development of a park, with ball fields of all types,playgrounds and walking trails. The <br />
