,-7X - 7 PAGE 547 <br />The Chairman recognized Fred Heath, a sales representative from the E. F. <br />Craven Equipment Company, who was present to discuss with the Board equipment <br />that was being offered for purchase to the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and <br />the County for use at the sanitary landfill. He stated that it would be more <br />realistic for the County to accept the bulldozer that was being offered by his <br />company as the equipment was larger and more powerful than that being offered <br />by other competitive companies. The Board took no action on this matter. <br />The Chairman recognized Weston Hare and Rev. Marion Phillips. They requested <br />that the Board endorse a grant proposal for a project that would be known as the <br />Community Youth Rehabilitation Program. The program would secure volunteers who <br />would work with approximately eighteen to twenty -four youths who had run afoul <br />of the law. The grant application would be made to the Law lhforcement <br />Assistance Administration. Discussion ensued. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Flora Garrett, seconded by Commissioner Richard E. <br />Whitted, it was moved and adopted, that the Board endorse the aims and the <br />purposes of the proposal. <br />Commissioner Flora Garrett outlined the work that had been performed by the <br />Ambulance Study Committee. She reported on the i�mrgsncy Medical Service Council <br />meeting that had been held at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. A discussion <br />ensued. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Flora Garrett, seconded by Commissioner henry S. <br />Walker, it was moved and adopted, that the County would establish an Emergency <br />Medical Service Council. <br />It was reported to.the Board that a request had been received from the Chapel <br />Hill Kiwanis Club relative to the holding of a fireworks display on July 4, 1973. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Henry S. Walker, seconded by Commissioner Ira <br />A. Ward, it was moved and adopted, that a permit to hold a fireworks display on <br />July 4, 1973, be issued to the Chapel Rill Kiwanis Club. <br />The Board directed the County Administrator to contact E. C. Hubbard of the <br />Board of Water and Air Resources concerning the application for grant funds that <br />had been filed by the Town of Hillsborough for the enlargement of its sewerage <br />plant. The Administrator is to report to the Board his findings relative to <br />this matter. <br />It was agreed that the Board would meet with Miss Rebecca Wall relative to <br />the Burnside property on Thursday, April 12, 1973, at 4 :30 P.M. <br />The Board agreed to meet jointly with the members of the Chatham County <br />Board of Commissioners and the Person County Board of Commissioners on Thursday, <br />April 19, 1973, at 6 :30 P.M. <br />A road petition for SR 1533 was submitted. The Clerk was instructed to <br />forward said petition to the State Highway Commission. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Ira A. Ward, seconded by Commissioner Henry S. <br />Walker, the following Resolution was unanimously adopted: <br />RESOLUTION ENLARGING THE EKTRA- <br />TERRITORIAL ZONING JURISDICTION <br />OF THE TOWN OF CRAFFL HILL <br />WHEREAS, G. S. 160A -360 provides for the enlargement of a Town's <br />extraterritorial jurisdiction to include an area within one (1) mile of <br />the corporate boundary of said Town, and <br />WHEREAS, the area hereinafter described is all within one (1) miles of <br />the corporate limits of the Town of Chapel Hill, and <br />WHEREAS, there is currently in effect an Ordinance providing for the <br />zoning of Chapel Hill Township, Orange County, duly adopted by the Orange <br />County Board of Commissioners for said County, and <br />WHEREAS, Subsection a of Section 2 of Chapter 1088 of the Session <br />Laws of 1969 provides that the extraterritorial jurisdiction of the Town <br />of Chapel Hill may be extended into an area as prescribed by the General <br />Statutes with agreement of the County Commissioners, and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Chapel Hill has <br />requested the County Commissioners to agree to enlargement of the <br />extraterritorial zoning jurisdiction of the Town of Chapel Hill as here- <br />inafter provided, and <br />
