TF~iS IJDO
fiorrnat which would collapse subdivision, zaningr floodplainf stormwater, economic
development manuals, etc. into a single source sand develo~nent cede booklet is not a
new idea and is a reasonable direction.
However, haw ~ accomplish tfiis goal was explained briefly at the goat priority setting
session last TF~ursday, January 29. There are a variety of optEans xhat include varying
degrees of time, money, consultants, staff time and ma,~ar vs. minor rewriting. Over
tl7e next month, Planning StafF wilt elaborate vr~ tl~e various options with the direction
of #tie Manager's Office for i'kscal constraints and prioritization.
Underskanding the i'<scal situation at this time, staff will probably be tending towards
creating a new Lii~ framework (ar~ganizairion, s~uenting and format numbering
scheme, etc.) in house and find~g an external entity to repackage the freestanding
ordinances into this new framework. Keep in mind, this repackaging does not correct
defiaeneies in present ordinances, nor create new zoning mechanisms as was
suggested with conditional zoning and use. At a rrtinirt~um, ttre r~epackaging~~woulcf
collapse a series of redundant and sometimes conflicting definitions into one section
and create ari orgdrtized outline in which to make future and specialized amendments.
