-~_x 7 F~~E 544 <br />Bob Adams, Regional Highway Coordinator, stated they were anticipating <br />that a new secondary road fund would be appropriated in the near future, He <br />estimated that Orange County would receive approximately $150,000,00 sad that <br />the current ooat for paving one mile of road was $x.0,000.00, therefore, the <br />County could expect about four miles of paved road in the coming year. <br />The District Highway Cotmnissioner stated that once the new secondary <br />road allocation is announced that he wou7.d like to have the opportunity of -- <br />presenting the program to the Board, <br />The Board expressed their appreciation to the representatives of the <br />Highway Commission for responding to the request of scheduling this meeting, <br />The following items ware considered: The County Administrator was <br />requested to secure a copy of the proposed statewide sediment control bill, <br />The Board endorsed possible legislation that would change the interest <br />due date on local property tax. <br />The Bcard approved the expenditure of $7,000,00 to the Sheriff's Department <br />for the purchase ~ new radio equipment, <br />The County Administrator was directed to advise the Towne of Chapel Hi11 <br />and Carrboro that the County would like to have the sanitary landfill opened <br />on a trial basis on Saturday mornings. <br />The County Administrator was to write Orange County's representatives <br />and urge that the County be exempt from the $$roue of counties that are <br />required to spend at least seven per cent (7yb) of their A, B, C, profits on <br />Alcoholic Rehabitation programs. <br />The Board approved the purchase of a Rex 3-$0 compactor for use at the <br />sanitary landfill. The coat of said equipment was $57,791}.00. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was <br />adjourned, <br />C, Norman Walker, Chairman - <br />S. M. Gattis, Acting Clerk <br />MINi1TES OF THE ORANGE CCIINTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />March 20, 1973 <br />The Board of County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, <br />March 20, 1973, at 8 o'clock P. M, in the District Courtroom. <br />Members Present: Chairman C. Norman Walker, and Commissioners Henry S. <br />Walker, Ira A, Ward, Flora Garrett and Richard E, Whitted, <br />Members Absent: None <br />A cake was presented to Commissioner Henry S, Walker as this was his birthday. <br />Member.s:~of the Board were joined by Dennis Rogers, Reporter from the Chapel <br />Hill Weekly. Chairman Walker expressed to Mr. Rogers the appreciation of the <br />Board for the coverage and cooperation that he had given them and expressed <br />their regret that he was leaving Orange County to accept another position. <br />Chairman Walker declared that the remainder of the meeting would be held <br />as an Executive session, , <br />S. M, Gattis, County Administrator, C. D, "Busk" Knight, Sheriff, and <br />Betty June Hayes, Register of Deeds were present, Chairman Walker asked the <br />County Administrator to bring the Board up to date on the "POSITION CLASSIFICATION <br />PLAN AND PAY PLAN" that had been completed by the State Personnel Office, <br />Each department official presented their views relative to the proposed <br />"POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN AND PAY PLAN". A detail review and disausaicn <br />ensued. <br />
